‘She Started It’ event to celebrate women in entrepreneurship

Interested in learning more about female representation in entrepreneurship? You’re in luck.
The Entrepreneurship LLC (Living Learning Community) and Miami student group Women in Social Entrepreneurship are hosting a movie night and you’re invited.
The movie to be shown, “She Started It,” is a documentary released in 2016. It was co-directed by journalists Insiyah Saeed and Nora Poggi, and it follows four female entrepreneurs as they founded their startups: Brienne Ghafourifar, Co-Founder of Entefy; Stacey Ferreira, Co-Founder of MySocialCloud and Admoar; Agathe Molinar, Founder and CEO of Lemoncurve; and Thuy Truong, Co-Founder and CEO of GreenGar.
To accompany the movie, WISE and the LLC are bringing in local entrepreneur Kelly Kolar to speak about her experiences as a female founder.
Kelly Kolar is the founder, president and CEO of Kolar Design, a design firm based in Cincinnati that has been creating impactful experiences since 1990. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s college of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. She has previously served on the board of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design as well as the United Way Women’s Leadership Council. What’s more, she was the recipient of the 2015 Women’s Business Enterprise Star Award.
The goal of this partnership between the Entrepreneurship LLC and WISE is to get the word out about women in entrepreneurship who continue to do amazing things and contribute to society through these ventures. Younger women especially need to know that the model certainly exists - and with the help of events like this movie night, they can see that entrepreneurship isn’t just for men.
“If you can’t see people doing it, you can’t see yourself doing it,” said Marcus Branch, LLC member and management & leadership major who is helping to organize the movie night. “I was shocked to learn that only 10 percent of founders are women, and 98 or 96 percent of venture capitalists are male. So there’s a long way to go.”
The speaker-and-a-movie event will take place in Taylor Auditorium on Monday, April 10, at 7:45 p.m. All are welcome - no tickets required.
